SEAGULL SOUNDINGS- SEPTEMBER 2004

CRIME WATCH: Aside from the threat of a visit from Charley, things continue to be quiet as are the Crime Watch participants. Hopefully once Ron Schmidt returns the Crime Watch will be in operation again.

TRAVEL NEWS: Check the bulletin board for trips and events available. Things should be picking up soon so keep an eye on the board or check with Mary K at  365-1131 for more information. '

The Good Sams Club would appreciate your cooperation when we have a funeral meal to prepare. A notice announcing the arrangements for services, fellowship and meals will be posted in the Club House on the bulletin board as soon as we have the information to pass onto the park residents. Please use the sign up sheets. We must know the number of people who plan to attend said function. We can then be prepared to make the fellowship memory more comfortable for the bereaved.

                                                                  FROM THE MANAGERS

Thank you for all the kind words and cards we received in the sudden loss of our brother.

Gail and Viv Virgo and Frank Hamilton

Please remember to check your homeowners policy and upgrade it if necessary. We were very fortunate with Hurricane Charley. Your "Rules" or Guidelines do require that "all homes must be adequately insured for liability".

Be reminded that it is important that ALL residents register that you are 55 or older. It is necessary that we have this information on file to insure our community retains its status as a "senior community".

The new phone number of Aqua America is: 1-800-250-7532. Be advised that the minimum water bill is $25.60, which breaks down as $9.61 for water and $15.99 for sewer. There is NO "Vacation" rate. The minimum rate does apply then and you are billed it,

.WELCOME:

Residents of Lakeside Terrace have noticed several new faces and smiles in our community and would like to take this opportunity to say "Hello & Welcome". Grant & Lelia Hurrell arrived in August from OH and are now residing at 19 Lake Griffin Dr., ME loss was Lakeside Terrace's gain when Phillip & Dorothy Marcotte became residents at 27 Driftwood Ln. James & Emily Spencer said hello to Florida and Lakeside Terrace when they arrived from NY to their new home at 20 Driftwood Ln. and Robert Thomas from MI can be found at 44 Wintergreen Dr.

SHELTER:

Like our friends and neighbors we had been watching and listening to all the news alerts and warnings about hurricane Charley and his approaching arrival to our area bringing with him destruction, untoll damages, possible injury and death, and wondered what to do, finally deciding the smartest thing for us was to go to a shelter. So with mixed emotions, important personal papers treasured family photos, and a couple bottles of Diet Coke, along with chairs blankets and pillows tucked under our arms we loaded the car and headed to the shelter at Lady Lake Elementary School. Driving down 27 was eerie and lonely, the winds were strangely calm and still, clouds overhead were gray and there was a very noticeable absence of traffic. When we pulled up to the shelter people who had already arrived and settled themselves came out and offered to help us unload our car and carry things in. People welcomed one another and helped each other in anyway they could. During our stay we were fed dinner and later served fresh baked warm from the oven Chocolate Chip Cookies. Even though the shelter was full it was never really noisy or uncomfortable and even the little children seemed to know this was an usual situation and played games, colored in their books and listened to stories, their was no whinny or crying or disagreement over toys. I would like to applaud the marvelous volunteers who worked continually to keep us all comfortable and informed. These unsung heroes's kept the shelter and its facilities neat and clean and well stocked. Our decision to go to a shelter is one we will never regret and are confident that should another hurricane threaten us as strongly as Charley did we will not hesitate to return to the shelter.

To our neighbors who were ill or hospitalized recently, we wish for you all better days and healing too, combined with good cheer and strength. In August the Sunshine Club sent a get well card to AUDREY VANBEYNEN.

Our sympathies are extended to Gail Virgo for the loss of her brother. Sadly we also report the passing of Ethel Marshall who has been a resident of Lakeside Terrace for many years.

That's all for now folks (with Peg and Rich sitting by my side I have gotten through the first issue on my Dell, hopefully things will get better). The news cut off date for future issues of the Seagull will be the 25th of the month.
