SEAGULL SOUNDINGS - OCTOBER 2004 CRIME WATCH: Nothing new to report on the crime watch situation. We seem to be free of the criminal element, now if we could just get rid of Mother Nature; we would probably be all right. TRAVEL NEWS: Watch the bulletin board for future trips and events. Check with Mary K at 365-1131 for additional information. All the storms may slow down the social calendar for a while, but watch the board for any new postings. REMEMBER SOCIAL CLUB MEETING, TUESDAY, OCTOBER 5 th at 7:00 P. M. BINGO IS BACK!!! We are back at Lakeside Terrace and will be starting up Bingo on Monday, October 4h. Doors open at 5:30 P.M., and games will begin at 6:30 P.M. If you would like to volunteer to work the floor, please sign up on the Caller's Sheet on the bulletin board under the bingo sign. We look forward to seeing all of you on the 4th. Edd & Carole Kolbe The Good Sams Club would appreciate your cooperation when we have a funeral meal to prepare. A notice announcing the arrangements for services, fellowship and meals will be posted in the ClubHouse on the bulletin board as soon as we have the information to pass onto the park residents. Please use the sign up sheets. We must know the number of people who plan to attend said function. We can then be prepared to make the fellowship memory more comfortable for the bereaved. UP DATE: Since Peg's "glowing" review of the shelter in the September issue of the Seagull, Peg, Rich and I have found it necessary to return on two more occasions to take cover from storms Frances and Jeanne. Although it is really not a great place to "hangout", we did feel safe and were fed and kept dry. On the last two visits the shelter was more crowded and a little "cool" in the "great room" where we stayed. I do understand from several of our Lakeside Terrace neighbors also at the shelter that the "suites" where they stayed were a little more comfortable temperature wise and space wise. All in all, September turned out to be a hectic month and I for one am not sorry to see it over. I don't mean to complain, but it is human nature to grumble. I am, however, very grateful and appreciative that our community was spared the devastation felt by many areas and hope the remainder of the hurricane season will be much less active as the second half of it continues until the end of November. WELCOME: Residents and neighbors of Lakeside Terrace would like to say "Hello & Welcome", to our newest neighbors, Charles & Gloria Matias who come to us from NY and will be residing at 19 Lakeview Dr., also from NY are Frank & Patricia Follett living at 17 Lakewood Ln. GOOD-BYE CHARLIE, FRANCES, & JEANNE: I think I speak for the majority of our community when I say "Good-bye, Charlie, Frances, & Jeanne, its not been nice to know ya". I would like to take this opportunity to applaud The American Red Cross, our local police departments, fire departments, Sheriff s and EMT's who once again did an excellent job of getting us through a difficult time. Our power company also deserves a huge pat on the back for their swift actions in restoring power. Although no one enjoys a stay in a shelter, I must say that our three recent trips to Villages Elementary School shelter have proven to be better than we ever suspected a shelter visit would be and this is due to the excellent work of the American Red Cross and the volunteers who man the shelter. The one very important tip I could offer you for a shelter stay is be sure to take some warm clothes along with your usual Florida clothes. I LOVE OUR MOBILE HOME I t was November 1986 when we "looked at" our mobile home. It was up on blocks, and we came in through the back door and it just seemed like we were coming home. Guy did not feel the same. He wanted to be further out. Now, after the scare of hurricane Frances - and the house stood stronger winds than I ever thought it could, I am grateful and still love it. Out mobile home is as precious to me as any two million dollar house is to its owner. And, I tell you what, if I hear any snide remarks about mobile homes and the residents in a park, I just might have to "sock it to them" at least verbally!!! I had Guy make a plaque with a picture of our house to hang in the Florida room by the back door.
